Sheriff Chism’s experience comes from more than just a single branch of law enforcement. His perspective is shaped by more than two decades of service inside the Sheriff’s Office itself — where protecting and serving means balancing enforcement with compassion, leadership, and community trust.
He believes being Sheriff is about presence, not position. As he shared with Southport Magazine:
“I don’t want to be that person who only comes around a certain time of year or every four years. I’m out in public, going to events, speaking to people, and going into communities.”
That commitment shows. Whether it’s a school event, neighborhood gathering, or local fundraiser, Sheriff Chism is often there on his own time — not for attention, but because he truly cares about the people he serves.
